A compresser from fxpansion that again seems usable.

I really like the amp sim above. But with some of these, while I may not put on my lead vocals, definitely I could see being used in synths or more creative things that don't require utmost fidelity.

Good to know. I'm at about the 80% mark of my software set, the beginning at least. I find a lot of the free plugins aren't hifi enough for my tastes, but I'm glad the Baxter has been good for you, seems like a keeper.!

Dan was a contributor here at RO for quite a while and a plug-in designer. Unfortunately, I've never been able to use any of hi free PlatinumEars plug-ins because they're Windows VST only.

Yup, he was well appreciated but unfortunately wouldn't respect threads that were specific to analog discussion. He continued to push Fabfilter even after being asked over and over to please respect OP specific to analog and hybrid.
Being said, his passion for Fabfilter is undeniable for good reason. Fabfilter is excellent, so is Dan.

I filled out the info, hit "get the plug in".... and nothing happened. Perhaps the time has lapsed on the offer.

There should not be a time limit to the offer @Donny...try one of the links below

    Get it here http://www.cakewalk.com/Products/CA-2A

or download the Cakewalk Command Centre here https://www.cakewalk.com/command-center

If you download the Cakewalk Command Centre you can do an online activation, otherwise if you download it without downloading the Command Centre an offline activation is required.

There were a few who had the odd issue trying to download it but, including myself but I persevered and it is not a bad plug-in TBH...I had this one and the Waves CLA-2A side by side for a comparison and its quite comparable.

Let me know how you go, it you have any further issues I'll help troubleshoot you through the process

I just got the CLA Classic compressors to round out my compressor collection on sale. Having used them many many times at the the studios.

I like the cla/2a for bass becuase of its upper end harmonics. For vocals I dislike it for the same reason, it's a bit too much for my liking.

Even if subtle what are the differnces between that and the cakewalk version JW?

I think some of these freebies are as good or better than 50% of the run of the mill premium stuff.

Scooped the full version of the amp sim for $10 at GC.

Gonna grab the bass demo (fully functional one amp) for the gk sound, and probably grab the full thing w an eduction discount if it does 192k

heres the products free versions in bundle form.

One thing I noticed was the gain reduction appears to be a little higher on the Cakewalk CA-2A version over the Waves CLA-2A when both settings were matched...but only by a few db.

The bypass function des not work on the plug-in in Studio One, but it has an on / off switch anyway...

I haven't dived too deep into it as yet but I'll have another play around and report back here on my thoughts Kyle.

    Pic below for illustration purposes.

One thing worth mentioning for fans of presets...you may be dissapointed as the CA-2A does not have any.

Interesting comparasion. The cakewalk sounds a little thicker here on the liephone. The cla no surprises from what in used to. Although i did learn there's a HF knob!!!!! Awsome gotta see what that does!!

Still like the CLA for bass. I've noticed a tense at of all waves plugins to be brighteners by default even w flat settings this is neither good nor bad, just observation.
