It may not be a bad idea to have a sound reinforcement forum here. Are you qualified to moderate it? |

Well, moderating is the easy part. Up until the last week or so, there hasn't been much need for actual "moderating". Usually, people just come into your forum and exchange info, and everything is cool. Lately, however, certain ILK have been coming into RO just to be assholes. Personally, if that kinda shit happened in my forum, I'd toss em out on their fucking ear, but that's up to the moderator. Bigtree doesn't usually step in until the shit has gone too far. So, it's basically up to the moderator to set the tone and limits to his forum. WAY KEWL!
So, the "moderators" position is not really so much playing judge and jury, but more of a leader's role. If you want to have a forum, you really should have pretty good knowledge of the subject of the forum. You don't have to be God's gift to the subject, as someone else will always come along that knows more than you do, but I would say that PROFESSIONAL experience in the area would be a prerequisite. For instance, for a sound reinforcement forum, I wouldn't suggest that someone who set up their little powered mixer, 2 full-range speakers, and a couple of monitors in little bars be the moderator.
IMO, your experience would include designing, setting-up, and running large out door systems and concert systems. So, of course, you would need knowledge of boards, outboard gear, proper cabling and routing, monitoring, troubleshooting, sound checks, micing, tri-amplification, etc...
Although RO is mainly a recording site, I think that a sound reinforcement forum would be a benefit to us all, but I don't think it would be wise to start that forum until we have a well-qualified moderator who is willing to dedicate their time, experience, and knowledge to it. I think a SR forum would have quite a bit of traffic, so the moderator would need to be prepared to be around pretty much on a daily basis, or at least every few days. You don't necessarily have to post something there every time you're on RO, but you check-in on it, make sure everything is cool.
I think that pretty well says it... |

Agreed!!! I'm far away from qualified to moderate a SR forum... but I think that the idea of having one around here is VERY good!! I'm looking foward to it! |

ATTENTION BIGTREE:
We have interest in starting a "Sound Reinforcement" forum. Fletcher apparently thinks it's a good idea, too, as he emailed me saying that he had several possible candidates to moderate it.
So, I'm asking, if Fletcher finds a moderator, can we start the forum? |

When RO first started there was a live forum, but not enough posts to justify it. So it was canned in the last major overhaul.
Go ahead and ask your SR questions here for now. If enough people are interested, I'm sure bigtree would re-add the SR forum to keep things organized. |
