single-wide mobile home?

lol.. the search continues.

just got offered a single wide mobile home. i know i know.

i know the problems, but so what. thats what this forum is about right?

fixing the prob areas as much as possible.. so

low ceiling.. and insulation.

theres no sheetroc on the walls.

the neiboring mobile homes are pretty far away..maybe. im guessing 30 40ft. or more. is that far?

good things about it is i have permission to use the whole thing for my studio.

has living room..kitching to the right and 2 bd rooms with bathroom to the left. typical single-wide

living room is 20x13x8h with a wide A shaped ceiling the long way into the kitchen. island seperating livinrm from kitchen area.(control room?)

biggest bed room is 10x13x7h..small bd rm is maybe 7x10x7h

construction would have to be minimum.

i can treat the low ceiling, my concern is the wall and isolation.

is there a quick easy way to soundproof?. im recording/mixing hiphop r@b

or is this just another hair-brained ideas?

Genre of music you're talking about is all bass. You are in a giant speaker box like your car driving down the road. Everybody is going to enjoy all of your bass for at least a few blocks around you. Best thing you can do is to dig a big hole (dig a big hole is groovy modern music speak) and place the entire mobile home into it. Then you shouldn't have as much trouble. Sound impractical? Maybe that should be the name of your studio? Sound impractical. Just don't turn up your monitors before 9 a.m. or after midnight. Throw some outdoor bitchin' barbecues & your neighbors will love you & your music. Then you won't have any problem. Barbecues not soundproofing is the key.

I love barbecues so I'm willing to endure most anything including rap.

These two statements are in direct conflict.

If it takes mass to isolate sound then it takes strength to support that mass and a trailer frame does not have it...the strength.

Even if you could(and you can not) shore up the frame to the very outer edges from the ground up to support the frame, this is a lot of work(not minimum) presents opportunity for structural collapse due to compression and is illegal.

but yeah, if i use the living room for control room, couldnt i just throw some more insulation in the walls then throw 2 layers of sheetrock up?

wouldnt that help?

Well, you could. But your roof and floor are both now one as weak in isolation ability as the other.

It depends on what you are going for isolation wise. In general, a metal frame, elevated aluminum box is not recommended as a starting place.

The typical hollow block leveling is designed for a specific capacity and you run a serious risk of over loading these blocks, the frame and realistically the possibility of this trailer falling over.

I wouldn't ever suggest to do this, especially where I live where high winds in the hurricane season would make a pile of scrap in a split second out of this.

Treatments you can do with little or no concern but adding additional weight never works out like you would think in your kind of situation.
