I was recently approached by a songwriter to do some songs for him in my little project studio.

This is the first one he brought to me.

He just wrote the lyrics and a basic melody line and asked me to take it from there, as he doesn't play any instruments and isn't a singer (he just kind of hummed a general idea for the melody to me)

All instruments (except for the harmonica) and vocals were done by myself.

Keep in mind I'm a guitar player and just fudged the vox, drums and bass as best I could.
I am not a singer, drummer or bass player by any means.

Any suggestions/critiques/comments would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

OK OK OK..... Liar Liar pants on fire! So here I am, thinking about going for a motorcycle ride at 10 p.m. because it's so nice outside. But no. I go downstairs. Check e-mail, stop by Recording.org and what do I hear?? JUST A GREAT MOTORCYCLE SONG! No, you're not a bass player. You're not a drummer. YOU ARE AN EXCELLENT COUNTRY-WESTERN MUSICIAN, SONGWRITER, PRODUCER, ENGINEER. Like I said, you're a liar. You did a great job. Sure, there are things I would change but I really don't think you need to nor should change anything. In fact, IT'S ALL YOUR FAULT I'm going to go on a motorcycle ride so late. (hopefully this is not the last anybody will hear from me? Nearly killed myself this time last year.)

I think you should send this to Harley-Davidson? That is unless that wonderful recording at the end of your song was an Indian?? I'm sure there are Harley aficionados that know the difference between the sound of a Harley or an Indian. It wasn't the sound of a metric cruiser was it?? The horror! I don't think it was even a Sportster?? I have to know!

Still riding my purchased new, 82 "NipoGuzzi".
Ms. Remy Ann David

(Sort of like Chinese condenser microphones. My NipoGuzzi, is actually a Honda GL 500 Silverwing. A Japanese imitation of the Italian Moto Guzzi.)

Wow, Thanks for the nice words Remy!
Now my head is gonna be about twice as big as my body!
Embarassed

As far as the Harley at the end, unfortunately I have no idea what the actual model of motorcycle was, but the website I purchased the recording from (www.audiosparx.com) decribes it as thus:

"Generic Harley-Davidson, close up start, long idle, revs at away. "

And I just cut and used the "revs at away" portion of the .wav

Hmm .... Now I need to figure out how to get this recording in the right hands of one of the fine folks at Harley-Davidson.

Here's hoping Ms. Remy is still with us today!!

Ahhhhh....That is a cute little song.

Yeah......you aint a singer but its okay anyway!!

And as far as the end. Most likely a Harley. You should intro with it too and stick it in there at different spots in the song.

I DO recognise a Harley when I start one up in my garage.[/img]

Herley Davidson I heard, so this could be bullshit, but I heard they copyrighted the sound an Harley makes.
So you can't tune your bike to sound like theirs.
Is that troof or other?
