Recording Distorted Guitar

Whats the best sounding way to record a distorted guitar.
I'm just not satisfied with how mine sounds.

start off with a good guitar sound

sorry
didn't mean to be rude
but it could be as simple as that

give us a run down of what you are using and what you are doing now
and
tells us why you think things are not right

I generally use an SM57 close and off-centre with a condenser back to catch some room

a little less distortion than for a live gig
and
often double ... from a second take of the same part to layer on top for thickness
OR create a stereo split for a wide feel

not talking about a LEAD distorted guitar here
but for the rythms and pads and punch

lead and sometimes riff can require a signature sound that is equally as recognisable as the notes and melody

Mic'ing principles are the same for just about any application: Find the sound you like first, then find the "sweet spot" and put the mic in the sweet spot, and record it. If you like what you hear in the room, you should like what you hear in the recording.

Going direct (DI) without an amp is similar in that you need to find the sound you like, then record it.

At first, I highly recommend using the "studio" as transparently as possible.

So you're saying i should recording using a condenser.
Fair enough.
See i am really new to this.
Bent's probably explained basically everything to me.

ahah.

Anyways i was plugging straight into an Audio Buddy.

And last night i played around with it a little and made it sound pretty good.
Not amazing. But good.

Should i just like mic my half stack and call it a day or...?

(Sorry for the stupidity of this post)
