Can you compress this

Can this vocal be compressed if it's already in wave?

What I'd do if you're stuck with that is EQ out the vocal frequencies to a seperate track and then compress that. Then, go back and mix the original with the "boosted" copy.

SHOULD work, just a concept though.

I was thinking of flattening the EQ. Then mix out separate, to the computer. Then in the computer try to compress it. Sounds like alot of work. Doesn't really matter though. Just trying to not have to resing it again. Thanks

I would probably try a multiband compressor, and try to narrow in to the band of where the vocals are, but the vocal recording is badly dynamic, and re-recording is the only way it's ever going to sound professional, if there is no way to mix the vocals alone.

Sorry to say, but there's really not much you can do to improve it. Vocals, as anything else have a full range of frequencies. That would totally fubar the sound quality to try to do something like that.

These vocals actually really need to be retracked anyways. They were really clipping bad throughout the whole song.

Yeah re record them. One thing I noticed is thatthe vocal line sounded like it was set way back behind the band. Didnt match up to the way the band sounded. IMHO

wow.. this is the definition af a bad vocal production. It's off tune most of the time, it's clipping all the time, it's the wrong mic choise for that vocal or with a really bad EQ-ing and a ridicoulus reverb :S
