Hello everybody.

Well, once again, my band has failed to be granted a showcase at this years SXSW - more a matter of us being locals than sucking.

So, we're thinking of ways to make our presence known; possibly the 'gig on a flatbed in a prominent place' idea, and I was hoping some of you might have some other thoughts.

Of course I realize that SXSW is more of a party and less of a talent search for the lable/promo/manager/etc folks who come to town, but even with that consideration there is no reason not to take advantage.

Anyone?

thanks

How about playing naked? In undies? Only half serious.

Instead of a flat bed, how about doing what the Sex Pistols did? Play on a barge cruising down Town Lake? Find the most opportune time and play loud and be as entertaining as possible. They'll be sorry they didn't invite you!! You'll get signed just for having the balls to do it!

It'll cost a some dough and you'll probably get arrested (like the Pistols did), but so what! Austin's been kind of slow with the tech layoffs and all. We need some excitement!!

I'll be looking for you! Ciao!

P.S. You didn't haer it from me. All disclaimers apply. Rolling Eyes

D.

Steve,
What the fuck is wrong with those people? Is this some kind of sick joke? For all you RO readers that may not know, McAllister's band is one of my favorite bands of all time, but can't seem to get any respect from the smug, self important, faux hipsters in the "Live Music Capitol of the World". Music capitol, my ass.

McSnare,
I don't know. I'm really not sure if I ought to laugh out loud or get all pissed off. Both, probably.
I'm starting to think it's personal.

Anyway, if you make it down I'm sure I'll see you. . . and it's nice to know we rate as 'one of your favorite bands'.

"Local" is always the kiss of death because it means that you are over-exposed. One great technique is to gig under different names. Another is to figure out how you can limit publicity to just one part of town at a time so that the average fan thinks they can only see you once every six months. You can even advertise "just back from ______."

When all else fails, send out a press release saying that you are negotiating with a producer in London!

Is anyone interested in meeting up during SXSW? I know I'd enjoy being able to meet some of y'all.

Hell, I might even put someone up for the night if they don't mind sleeping on the control room sofa.
