hi,
I'm having a difficult time trying to get my cd/mp3 player playing discs.
i recently purchased a kenwood dpc-mp727. It's a portable cd player that can play audio cd's, cd-r and cd-rw discs. It also plays mp3 and wma files.
The audio files are fine, but it's with trying to play mp3 files where i'm having no luck.
The whole purpose of me buying this player was in regards to being able to play mp3 files on cd-rw discs.
Here is some of the info that was given on the cd-player's instruction manual.
Usable Media: cd-rom, cd-r, cd-rw
usable formats: iso9660 level 1, and level 2(excluding expanded formats)
---i use adaptec easycd creator. It says that u can close a cd-r directcd to iso9660. But it says that CD-RW discs cannot be closed to the ISO 9660 format.
So my question is, how should i prepare or write my files to my cd-rw so that they can be read by the player?---
files that can be played back: mp3 & wma files
mp3 bit rate - 128 kbps (recommended) (32kbps-320kbps)
wma bit rate - 128 kbps (64kbps-160kbps)
** maximum folders u can have on a medium is 23.
** maximum files on a medium u can have is 200.
Naming files - These can be used:
-single byte characters between a & z
-single byte numerals between 0 & 9
-single byte underscore (_)
--- I'm confused by the wording of this, does it mean that by using single byte characters or numerals, you can only use 1 letter or number per file name, that u can't use to letter z's on the file name? i.e. staff.mp3 (can u use 2 letter's of f, or should it be staf.mp3??)
- maximum 12 characters can be displayed.
- ensure that the .mp3 or .wma extensions are attached to all file names.
**** I already have pre-existing mp3 files recorded in various bit rates and named like-wise.
I haven't encoded my own mp3's yet. I don't have the software that can convert wave files to mp3 files. If someone can recommend software that can do that, and if possible, preferably something u can get off the 'net (freeware, shareware program), i'd appreciate it. I'm not limited to buying a software package if there is one that is worth it and relatively inexpensive.
I'm also new to using cd writing technology. I own an LG CD-RW CED-8080B writer. If u can tell me how to prepare a cd-r and cd-rw to play mp3's on my player, i'd really appreciate it.
Again, i'm using adaptec easycd creator.
thanx for ur time. |

I think your prob is strickly limited to the names of the .mp3 files, I noticed an immediate concern;
YOU WROTE:
ANSWER: max characters in the name of the file can be 12, NO SPACES, use the "underscore" ( _ ) as a space. So rename everything that does not fit the criterias, and btw, zzzzz's or fffff's or any other letter or number repeated is fine, just remember 12 max and no spaces. (If you still have a prob, rename the files ".mp3" as part of the 12 characters).
Hope this is your solution, if not you can always call or email kenwood or the retailer as a last resort, lol, sorry, had to chuckle at that suggestion.
good luck, and lemme know how it turns out,
Mike
