Personally, I've "known" bigtree since the start of RO, and he's always been wide-open to suggestions for RO. In fact, he's ASKED for suggestions from some of us. I've given lots of suggestions...some of them have been used, some of them haven't. A long time ago, Ro was black, gray, and white...very dull. I made the suggestion that Ro should use an OSX Aqua color scheme. Well, he didn't like the Aqua idea, but he colorized us. Right after that, the DUC changed their color scheme...which looks rather "aqua-ish" to me! Anyway, I think you see the point.
Being a moderator here, I will join-in on the fact that I don't give a flying fuck about what other forums somebody may also visit. Nor do I care where our members come-from...I just wish some of them would leave their "baggage" at the door...hehehe! |

Lennart,
I will go back to your 2nd post in this thread, and try to shed some light on the matter rather than allow this to spiral into a meaningless flame-war.

quote:
Ah, but thats not what I'm looking for.

I'm sure bigtree knew exactly what you were looking for, and simply tried to make you feel a little better by pointing out a similar feature. Yeah, it wasn't the exact feature you were looking for. But the one you want most likely involves more cookies, which bigtree explained is an undesirable side-effect of turning on many of UBB's features. This led me to believe that either you did not accept his explaination, or you didn't understand it. Assuming you are a reasonably intelligent person, the latter conclusion would imply that you didn't make any effort to understand it. That left me wondering "Is he stupid, lazy, or arrogant?" It didn't occur to me at the time that bigtree could have been more explicit in his post, and I apologize if that was the main reason for your reply.

quote:
In HR, when you eneter a thread...

Here you compared RO to HR. This is coming right on the heels of that flame war with John. It really felt like you were trying to stir something up. Maybe just a wrong place, wrong time thing. I'd like to forget the whole thing ever happened. Wouldn't you?

quote:
very practical.

This statement implies that RO is impractical by comparison. Again, not something we need to hear right now... unless you care to make some donations.
Then in later posts you said that we flame people for making suggestions. That is utterly ridiculous. I thought you were just acting like a crybaby, but apparently the sequence of events genuinely gave you that impression. For that assumption, I apologize.
That more or less sums up the attitude I was referring to, and my understanding of why you got "flamed". If you didn't mean what you said to be taken that way, I understand. Sometimes it's easy for things to get read the wrong way on forums such as these. Can we all try to see where each other is coming from, and let's move on? I could be doing other things right now.
Truce? |

Originally posted by Ang1970:
I'm sure bigtree knew exactly what you were looking for, and simply tried to make you feel a little better by pointing out a similar feature.
Well, then he firstly should have said that clearly to avoid misunderstandings. Secondly, I still not warrant a flame from Fletcher for trying to make myself clear.
This led me to believe that either you did not accept his explaination, or you didn't understand it.
He did not DO an explanation. He pointed to another feature, that does NOT do a similar thing. Your claim that it's similar but not the exact same is FALSE, it is NOT similar.
Pointing to a feature that does not do the same thing can reasonably only be interpreted as not understanding.
If somebody says "I want a mountain bike to ride in the woods" and the other person says "oh, you can use this train, the track goes through the woods" the person is either making fun of you, or has not understood.
An explaination is then needed.
Here you compared RO to HR. This is coming right on the heels of that flame war with John.
[...]
This statement implies that RO is impractical by comparison.
Sure. I suggested an improvement, and pointed out a place where this feature was to be found, so you could find it. I really, honestly could not care less about your feelings towards HR. I don't care if you despise it or if you feel inferiour or whatever. Those things are all irrelevant, and me being from HR should not warrant me being flamed.
Again, not something we need to hear right now...
I could not care less. That I find HRs interface more practical than RO's in its details is NOT a reason to flame me.
Then in later posts you said that we flame people for making suggestions. That is utterly ridiculous.
Yes it is, but still its true. Or rather, you are in fact flaming me because I'm active on HR.COM, which is just as ridicolous. But you behaving like babies is NOT my fault.
I apologize if that was the main reason for your reply.
Apology accepted.
Truce?
Peace. |

Well, thanks for the honest attempt to understand why we felt you were being a belligerent asshole, and flamed you for that (not for making a suggestion, get off it already). I see now that this is not the case. You are a perfectly reasonable person who just needed a chance to point out how he had been unjustifiably connected with a flame war he was not responsible for. I hope you can forgive us for that.
Train, bike, whatever. Long as it gets me thru the woods I'm not gonna bite someone's head off for suggesting it. Welcome aboard! |
