Hi. I'm looking for mixing advice on this little thing I have going here for a television show intro. The song is not complete but it's getting there pretty quick. I'd say that the first 25 seconds or so is done, I just need to mix it as well as possible and that's why I'm posting it here. I'm looking for any advice on how to make what's there sound better. I'm kind of on a deadline ending in a few days so your comments are much appreciated. THe second half of the track isnt done as far as instrumentation. I'm still going to be arranging and rearranging the instruments and surely adding more tracks. Thanks a bunch.
Eric
It's the track called "Intro 2".

Although I appreciate what you're trying to do with the little brassy stab... It frightens me.
Heh, apart from being slightly scary it's really quite smooth and hits some pretty heavy memory hooks in the brain. Good work |

Perhaps you could liken your frightening to something I can relate to? I'm not super thrilled with the stabs either. It's not that they dont belong but figuring out where to put them in the mix is throwing me a bit right now.
I should also mention that writing this kind of music is right up there with peeling my finger nails off backwards slowly until my cuticles and flesh rip off from the first knuckle.
It's just not what I usially write but I'll be happy to get it done as well as I can anyway.
Any advice is much appreciated.
Thanks for your comments.

I'm not sure of technical terms or anything that you could actually put into a machine. But the sound I want for those stabs, so that it doesn't sneak up in my ear and go "BOO" is probably a softer attack, a volume envelope with a softer introduction and probably an eq drop of a few db on all frequencies apart from the bit that honks. Or you could just push the bit that honks and drop the whole sample back a few db.
Your description of the nail peeling made my skin crawl. Much worse than the music. However, I am glad I do not watch T.V. |
