Working on a song right now, please critique the song structure and the general mix as it was all recorded live and I'm hoping to go this route for our next CD

You definitely have the live band sound captured. The vocals could use a little EQ. They sound a little washed out. Maybe some 4k and a high shelf boost. Or a better pre, or LDC. You could probably layer them on top. You would get a double track sound that way. The drums sound a little thin. Maybe a little less of the high shelf boost on the overheads and add in some 1k. The bass if very punchy, which I like, but maybe some more low end to fill out the mix. |

Thanks Gecko
Yeah those vox needs some work for sure, I think I'll back off a bit on the eq on the vox and check my delay on the vox.
I'll maybe add a tad of 60hz -ish on the bass to get some womp in there. I'll check the eq on the oh's as well.
That being said we'll definately be re-recording this so I don't want to work on this mix too much, just want to make sure my mic placements are good in case we get a good take. I always like the vibe you get with a live recording as opposed to doing everything separately and since this was the 2nd time through the tune I'm thinking we might be able to nail it. |
