anyone here ever get any awards/plaques?

I'm not exactly hip to how producers end up getting gold and platinum plaques after producing on an album that sells a certain amount.. If I made a beat for trey songz and he put I'd on his album, and his album sold 1 million copies... Would the label just send me a plaque for it or what? Maybe someone can put me on wit some info?

no sir. One of my goals I set for myself for the next 2 years is to get a gold record plaque. I've already been credited on 2 releases. I just wanna get hip on how to get presented one

This stems from the days when people made records.
When you make a record a master stamper is produced, this is a gold or silver coloured metal record. Once you stamped enough copies from one of these they would ware out, making nice things to hang on the wall.
Take the album you made the beatz for, get some vinyl masters cut, stamp some vinyl for listening pleasure then make your own plaque.
Don't hold your breath for anything else.

i had a gold record. it was the Guess Who live at the Paramount, presented to the band for outstanding sales, 1972. a guitar student, who's uncle was in the band, traded it to me for a Peavey amp (i got the better deal...). i hung it on the wall and used to joke that it would be the only gold record i would ever get. anyway, i sold it and used the cash to help fund a Neumann TLM 49, which is much more useful!
these 'trophies' are just about sales, so i don't think they are true reflections of artistic merit. after all, Britney Spears has a lot of these knick-knacks...

the quickest way to obtain a gold record is to purchase it yourself. 1) confirm with RIAA that the record has been certified. 2) get a letter of approval from the record company to have one made with your name on it.

If i remember there are only 4 or 5 companies that can make official RIAA awards.
