I have never really gotten BETTER results using a compression plug, like waves API 2500, or RComp, etc...than I do simply using L1+ ultramaximizer or the L2 Ultramaximizer...
I am wondering if someone can explain the pro's/con's and what the actual difference is? I could swear I remember someone bashing L1/L2 freaks but I always just go by what sounds better to me...and no I am not a super experience mixing engineer by any means...
Am I just not using the comp plugs correctly? |

This belongs in the mastering forum. jk Ha Ha...
The one built in the DAW seems to do what I want, but I don't use much compression. |

I think it best to have as many flavours as you can.
The L1/L2 plugs are great, however its easy to go to far with them.
I have only used the hardware version of the API 2500, and it is also a great bus compressor. It has a sound that is unique, so on some mixes it really shines. |
