vocal booth

as I understand, I have a small vocal booth built (4x6) and the acoustics will be terrible in there, so I should just deaden the whole thing from top to bottom.

is this correct?

should I put LENRDS in all the corners and auralex foam in between?

the ceiling slopes up from 8' to 8'2''

two of the walls are perpendicular to eachother (block walls) one is 5'9'' and the other is 3'11''

the other two walls project out alittle to make an acute angle (particle board) from the 3'11'' wall another 5'9'' wall projects out and meets with a 4'7'' wall that goes back to the 5'9'' section of block wall.

make sense? don't know how to post a drawing ( too stupid)

Welcome to the real world... it can seriously bite ya' square on the fanny, can't it?

You got the cards you dealt yourself, so... what do ya do?

Be sure you put some ventilation in this room. Start by using natural convection. Put yourself at least a 90 degree turn in the ducts, but a small common size floor grill opening at the bottom and a slightly larger opening in the top.

You can easily make it out of wood framing and a coupla' pieces of plywood. Bring it in and turn it downward. Line it with some mineral wool wrapped in pantyhose, if nothing else.

I would recommend 1" 703 liner, but if you can't find it/afford it, then use mineral wool and wrap it in a fire retardant material. Your nodal issues will hopefully not be as pronounced in the vocal range, but they will still be there.

The reason I would stay away from the foams is that their higher physical profile displaces volume in the room. You've got a small room, why make it claustrophobic?

Not only that, but to completely cover the surface of a room in acoustic foam is going to cost a LOT more than mineral wool or 703.

How loud is it gonna get in there?

It's a vocal booth right? If you have strong enough ceiling joists, and should ever decide to say... place an amp in the room, a simple piece of particle board ain't gonna stop a thing. If it's a possibility, I'd put at least one layer of 5/8" or 3/4" gypsum on the inside.

I take it your room exterior is fiberglass filled stud walls with particle board. If that's the case, again I'd put a layer of gypsum on the outside. If nothing else, to make it more like the rest of the room, instead of some kind of shed sitting in the middle of the studio.

Unfortunately, since studio construction is not the primary focus of Big Tree's forum, we got no file storage space.

So...... you have to find an image host. I use my domain, but there's photobucket and a few others out there that will let you dump pix to.

I can't tell ya where or what to spend money on but you do seem to have your own ideas, that is always good. It is always good to know by way of research where to spend your money.

I really haven't seen a question more like wanting support for a decision you are making or have made. If pressed hard for what I think, Max has made suggestions that would be of more concern to me.

are the 703 and the foam interchangeable? I can use either and get the same results?

when you say: displaces volume in the room does that mean my room is just getting smaller or something else?

nodal issues will still be there? why?
