Ok, so I don't have an electric guitar and I am a bassist by nature. I used my Line 6 DL4 and my 6-string bass and played the "guitar" part on my 2 high strings... that being said -

- can you tell the difference?

- Is it too noticeable that it sounds distracting or does it seem to fake well enough?

I played with a pick near the bridge, added some overdrive, compression, reverb with Logic and the Line6 DL4 - and rolled off most of the low end.

PS - it's also not mixed!! So I may try to hide it a little more...

Hi, Sensei

Yup definately can tell the difference.
Sounds like a bass with distortion.

Sorry but it doesn't fake well enough at all.

A bass is a bass and sounds like one no matter how many bells and whistles you put on it.

Not that there's anything wrong with the track using the distorted bass, but definately nowhere near a guitar sound if that's what you were going for.

Hope this helps!

Thanks for the response - there is a bass with distortion in there too, it's panned more to the right and I'm not trying to make that sound guitar-ish...the "guitar" part I was talking about is more in the left side, with all the delay... is that what you were talking about too?

Thanks

I'll go ahead and say that to the average person I bet it sounds like guitar. To you and me, trained ears- not so much. Not like it sounds bad, if anything it's innovative!

That was my take on it as well. Not so much innovative , more a unique sound.

Ahh! Now that you have explained that it was the part panned to the left, I see what you are talking about.

To the nontrained ear yes, it would be passable as a guitar.

This has some really nice sounds in it. Some bits feel really real and some things sounds totally fake. I dunno which bits or how to describe it. The last percussive thing you hear as the song fades out, that noise is annoying to me. It runs through the whole track, and there is a counter to it which is equally as annoying. The rest is like sonic gold.

Slick production. Rock on. Smile

Thanks Greener. The percussive thing at the end does span the whole song, it's just a loop with a highpass or something. I meant to do something to it, like take it out of the B section.

Thanks for the critique!
