My colleague and I were discussing earworms. You know the tunes that get stuck in your head and you can't get out. We were having so much fun with this that we decided to (sadistically) put on a concert of them.
Here we go...but some rules first.
1. Maximum of 5 tunes
2. No repeats - please read through the thread before posting your tunes
3. Remember this is all in fun - no angry private mail about how a tune is keeping you up all night.
My Top Five: (All from the late 60s early 70's time period)
1. Do You Know the Way to San Jose
2. Feelings
3. Raindrops Keep Fallin' on My Head
4. Color My World
5. Baby Elephant Walk |

Loads of choons get stuck in my head, but if I like them it doesn't bother me at all.
If I don't like them then it's annoying as...
I had the Dark Side in my head for about 6 months when I discovered it but that was fun times.
As to the worst songs to get stuck in my head... Easy, (not sure of spelling and I'm not looking it up), Mmm Bop by Hanson. *shudders* *flips on hendrix* |

I know this sounds crazy, but about 1-2 times a week I wake up and the first thing that pops in my head is the theme from the Jeffersons.
You know, the " ... movin' on up ... to the eastside ". But just that part.
Thing is, I never watch the Jeffersons. I don't think I've watched an episode in 10 years. Maybe I've got a thing for Weezie.
Wait a minute. No, no I don't. |

Well you can tell by the way I use my walk, I'm a ladies man, no time to talk......
Pretty Woman, walking down the street. Pretty woman, the kind I'd like to meet....
If I only had a brain (some guy in the office keeps whistling it...dang him to heck!)
I'm a lumberjack and I'm okay, I work all night and I sleep all day. I cut down trees, I wear high heels, suspenders and a Bra. I wish I were a girlie, just like my dear papa...
Those are the worst offenders currently.
Cheers-

Dude! Seek help. |
From more girls!
Saw this song done on Americas Next Top Prancer and I have to say it was the worst auto-choon fest I have seen. Got stuck royally in my head until I substituted in sniffed and turd and it became weird.
Something else that got stuck in my head was the theme song from Jurassic Park, that orchestral thing... I heard it as the background music for the US golf Masters a few months ago. Whistled it for weeks. |

Whenever I write a multiple choice exam, and I don't quite know which anser is correct, I start to hear Jim Morrison chant "Come On baby take a chance with us, Come On baby take a chance with us, meet me at the back of the blue bus"
The doors, The End.
It doesn't help me get the right answer, but I do get an urge to drive to LA in a hippy van |

I was reading somewhere that we get earworms all the time, but we don't notice the good ones. For two days I've had Rick Danko singing Long Black Veil in my head. Only real problem is that I sometimes sing "harmony" when someone else can hear. |

Ok folks, we are going to bump it up a notch. This is one of the good ones, and I will include a (very cheesy) sample.
We were having a little family party at my parents place today, and my cousin's kid jumped on my father's piano and played this song. It's been going through my head for hours now.
Anybody who has taken a little bit of piano will know this one.
Written by Hoagie Carmichael, published in 1938.
Heart and Soul
Here's a wiki link to the tune.

I have a rule in my classroom that states "No Heart and Soul" and no "Chopsticks".
They still manage to play the friggin' "Axel F Theme" from what...1983??? and 48 hours?? WTF?? most weren't even born yet. |
