You're asking more about the SOUND, right? I agree that you should bring some stuff back to the center. Unless or until you plan to add vocals, which in that case they'd serve well in the center.
I still say the guitar is too loud...it's getting better with each tune but either turn him down or better yet, move the frickin' mic(s) away from him. His tone is 'ok'.
And I just have to ask, WTF is the bass player doing??? Really, there could be a decent vibe, but he's killing it. Or were you just wanking for the sake of experimenting with the recording?
You sound like a good drummer, too bad I'm distracted by the other two guys. Do you have some other guys that you can jam with? |

Ahh Tastele,
I'm not sure about vocals. The vocalist for the band lives a 1500kms away, so when he's down we tend to just cut new stuff.
I get it when people say "wanking" to describe the random self absorbed nature of the music. It's just noodling, ie playing with your noodle...
We are just making it up as we go along.
The bass player, Indiana Hutchinson is expressing himself. So is Bean Cassidy on Guitar. It makes me rock out.
Btw, I don't own mic stands and people walk through the area constantly. I prop the mics up on things or hang them from things.
We jamb in a party environment.
It's impossible to set levels then have then remain the same even through one track. Not to mention people knocking mics.
The amount of stuff you have to juggle just to get a bunch of people in one room playing instruments together is nought compared to the amount of stuff there is in recording a live sound in a living room.
Oh to build tracking room and fill it with instruments and to have a control/mixing room with something workable.
"And I just have to ask, WTF is the bass player doing???"
I remember you said the exact same thing but opposite about Welcome to The Lounge Hour, as in Bean was killing the fat groove Indiana and I we laying down...
I'm getting suss. |

That's gonna kill ya right there brother. You'd be better off trying to skeet shoot while carrying someone on your shoulders.
If you say your bass player is 'expressing himself', well then cool, I won't refute that. I'm just saying that I've yet to hear him contribute anything substantial to the songs you've posted. At least have him try and express himself while being mindful of your kick and/or groove.
Guitar players wank off on their own; that's ok, Bass players (when with a a drummer) really don't share that liberty IMO.
IMO <--- "emphasized".
Rock on. |

Cheers for the honest opinions, I can't express how much I appreciate the time you take to share them.
For an example of why I get into Indiana's bass playing is the last minute of the loose track, try grab the wav from a few pages back. The first 4 or so minutes are complete random pent up aggressive improv then it all falls apart and comes back together slower and with the bass locked to me. A moment of gold IMO.
Rock on indeed. |
