Hi all,

We have a ew100 unit from Sennheiser that uses the ME2 lavalier mic from Sennheiser. We are recording video for DVD production and the sound quality does not sound up to par with what it could be. Much of the video is recorded with a live audience. Scott from Sennheiser said that the MKE2 was a much better mic and used in Broadway as well.

I mentioned we would have issues with picking up unwanted audience noise such as coughing with the ME2. He said the MKE2 has a lower sensitivity and may handle that better.

My question is. If we want to record live lectures of this speaker what is the best mic for this application, a mic that also captures the richness of his voice and can eliminate small crowd noise such as coughing?

Thanks for all your suggestions!

Elijah

Probably NOT a lavalier...Can you get by with something like a Countryman around-the-ear?

Hey there Moonbaby! Thanks for your suggestion! I just called countryman and they suggested a over the ear as well. They are very small and I believe our speaker has worn one before. I will look into these more.

Thank you!

Hey Moonbaby,

We ordered a unidirectional and a omnidirectional E6 with a sensitivity level of 6 (-10Db) from Full Compass.

We will be returning one of them. It was to close a clall to just order one. They claim at is very good at censoring unwanted noise but I am skeptical and like the unidirectional better but it's placement is critical and I heard is very sensitive to breathing as well.

I am glad I ordered both to try out!

Full Compass was very understanding and nice!

Thanks for guiding me the right way!

We switched from a good Sony lav to a Countryman E6 in our church a year or two ago. Maybe the biggest improvement in sound quality for any single switch of a piece of audio equipment I've ever experienced. There is just no substitute for putting the mic in the right place. I think you will be very pleased.
