Hi.

I was hoping to get some feedback for my intended home studio setup. I'm getting Alesis Multimix 16 FW, Yamaha HS50M monitors, Shure Beta 52A for kick, Beta 56A for snare and 2 Beyerdynamic OPUS 53 as overheads. There are few other bits and peaces, but is this generaly okay? How about recording guitars and vocals with this setup (diferent mics ofcourse)? I'm kinda new at this so I would apricitate your opinion.

P.S. sorry for my english - i'm not native...

... and there was one other thing - would this mixer work with THE T.PC 3-PORT FIREWIRE-800 KARTE? My PC doesn't have a FireWire port so...

If you get firewire card get one with the Texas Instruments chipset. Siig and afew others make one. For the guitar mic SM57 works well. The SM57 will work on vocals also. If you want something different I would look for a condensor mic. Search these forums Im sure you will get some good ideas.
I would also add some headphones. The Sennheiser HD280 are good. Other than that what you have sounds like a good start.

Why are you chosing this setup?. Budget? Availabilty?

Where are you from?

I think there are a couple of internationally affordable options for you. Shure SM57 is the first one of them. AKG D112 for the kick would also be good. Take a look at other overhead options.

Why the Alesis?
Maybe you could find another FW interface. I heard that Presonus Firepod is working allright. If you don't have a firewire port then you should chek some PCI options. Wich software are you going to use? (I strongly recommend Sony Vegas).

Monitors look just fine, even when i don't know them. If they really sound like NS10 they are great. I have a pair at my studio.

Sorry for the messy thoughts.

casper - I have HD212Pro. Are they any good for Monitoring?

eFe - I'm choosing this mostly because of the money. I dont have enough to make anything very professional. This is only for making demos for my band, and since I don't have a good room I figured it would be a waste buying anything very expensive. I'm thinking of this more like learning oportunity.

I don't know if I'm making any sence there Razz

I would back away from the Alesis. Dont worry too much about having a mixer necessarily. The mixer loses all functionality once everything is in the box. I'll second the Firestudio. Not the Project version but the Firestudio which has ADAT i/o. That way you have an option if you want to expand your inputs. It comes with Cubase LE which is fine for most people.

Is there any particular reason to avoid Alesis? I have heard thet they arn't so bad...

I kind of like to have a mixer. I know it may well not be the smartest and most reasonable chioce, but no matter...

Search this forum. I've heard many problems with drivers and the firewire connection but that's just me.
