Hi every one. I am doing speech at school about careers and i need some standard infomation on being a music producer, audio engineer or really any job in the music industry.

Answering any of them would be a great help for his speech

1.How would you describe this career? (competitive, conservative, rapidly changing, stressful, etc.)

2. What are your predictions for the future for this career? Is it expanding??

3. Are quafied workers needed in this career? Is it expanding?

4. What is the potential income for this career? What is the typical starting salary range?

5. What is a typical day/week like in your job?

6. What do you like most about your job? What do you like least?

7. If you were hiring someone for this job, what kind of person would you hire? What skills and personal attributes are most important?

8. How did you get into this career? What was your career path?

9. What personal advice would you give to someone wanting to enter and advance in music producing?

10. What education or trainging is required? What courses/major should a person choose?

11. What are typial mistakes people make that prevent advancements in this career?

I know these questions may not be very specific but please, any infomation would be awesome.

Well, not being a producer myself, but having slept at a Holiday Inn once, I would suggest that a fire in the belly will go much farther then questions. Hand and eye coordination are two key features that one must possess. An insatiable thirst.
Honesty. You'll need it in the beginning, but to "advance" you may lose a layer here and there. Trust. Trust yourself and the people that surround you which should be your family.

Know what a music producer without a girlfriend is called?

Homeless!!!

Thanks for stopping by, I'll be here all week!

5. What is a typical day/week like in your job?

That depends. Is a typical week the one where you spend all 7 days waiting for the phone to ring, or is it the one where you spend the last 2 days bustin yer butt to get a job done because a client left a slightly annoyed message on your machine?

Hi I'm a Musician. Sometimes.

Where to start?

1: I would have to say rapidly conservative. Also fun and self satisfying.

2: Let me refernce the Gumbo... Gumbo says "DANGER you have Gout at 24, whiskey is not your friend. Take it easy." My futures bleak.

3: Yes and no. No to quafied and yes to qualified. You gotta be able to carry a tune. I'm expanding?

4: I have the potential to make an infinite amount of money, I however have no money so I can't go backwards. Salary?

5: This depends on the season. Right now it's cold but the sun is shining. Yeah, I own all my time so my days and weeks are spent doing what I want. This is a perk of the job.

6: The thing I like most would have to be my boss, we get along really well. The thing I like least is the pay, my boss is tight. I'm pov.

7: The main attribute I would look for when hiring someone would be a lack of interest in a salary, ability to get lit and talk shit and some musical talent (not mandatory).

8: I shunned all common sense.

9: Learn scales, keys and tempo structures. Seriously, tone deaf producers should be shot.

10: None. Got rhythm?

P.S I'm studying Robotics Eng in case I don't make it. Fingers crossed.

With all the sarcasm aside. Are you serious? YOU need to give a speech and you want someone here to do your homework for you? Why don't you at least make the effort to find a functioning studio in your city and book time with the owner/operator or one of the engineers?

I actually don't have a problem helping someone out with homework (in my other life I work in Special Ed, so this forum is right up my alley)
It would be nice to get a little more info from the poster though. Are you High School, College, Kindergarten ?
If you are seriously trying to do your footwork, I think you may find some real answers here if you are willing to read between the sarcasm.
My response may have been a little sarcastic, but it was based in reality. I have spent many weeks waiting for just 1 phone call and a job. I have also spent weeks working 30-40 hours in the studio on top of my real job.
