Ive got the oppotunity to open a small studio. I mainly produce so the studio would mainly be used for production of tracks for people and vocal recordings, guitar recordings...

what would you suggest as a way forward, business wise for this?

im just looking at peoples thoughts for this i know i have to look in to it, but as a starting point im here.

thanks

i already own the building that can be used for the small studio...
i have some gear i can put in there already, i would need to buy a few things to make sure the quality of recordings and everything is to a high standard.

only thing, it wouldnt look of have any of the same gears as these big huge studios....would that be an issue?

It sounds like your ready to get started and at least have some fun. At this point in the music business, actually making money is the icing on the cake.

I think business wise you need to make sure you head in right direction early on. I have never had a business plan, or been in debt more than a few grand, but one thing I do regret is putting out a LOT of inferior recordings for many years because..
1. I wanted to do it cheap
2. Didn't want to get into debt buying the "pro" gear
3. Didn't have the confidence to to buy "pro" gear thinking I probably wouldn't know what to do with it anyway!

My point is this...If you want to work on a serious level, decide early on and make appropriate plans. If you just float around having fun making cheap recordings it is almost impossible to break out of that cycle (not that there is anything wrong with just having fun)

The age old adage of "it depends" applies here.

What market are you really going for?

Do you have a budget?

Owning a piece of depreciating structure is not capital.
Owning land is not capital, and in the States seems to be a "hotch potch" idea.

To make any sort of suggestions for you, I need way more info.

Budget, goals.

Stuff like that.

owning land or a building aint capital but its money i dont havet to spend and it is an asset which does go in the finance books Razz business degree and marketing degrees got to love them lol.

where i live and where the studio is, is out of the way...its about 16miles out of the city which is a small city.

we have a few singers and artist just like any place.

i would mainly be aiming at vocal recordings mainly, and go from there. as i do not have a big budget.

With this i can record artist, and guitars if need be, but still produce which tracks for people at the same time...but during this i can dip my toe in the water and see how things are progressing.

does this sound like a step forward in the right direction?

You have two degrees, yet still can't write a proper sentence?

You have a business degree and don't consider land as capital?

Something is fishy here.

Too true.

Land is totally capital, even the building is.

Just not all that liquid, and given the market... Mortgage in the USA... Should be a hit.

I know, in this little hick town I'm living in, one of the best ways to get attention is to move alot of things in and out of a building. Lots of vehicles pulled up in the street, on the sidewalk, by the building. Make a big deal out of it! I remember last May I didn't even give my neighbors the time of day until one day they had trucks in the yard, cars in MY yard and all over the place. Seems the old woman who lived there had passed away.

My bad...
