Sheesh, with the 100K+ worth of gear he is advertising you think he could spend a couple of hundred bucks to have it photographed properly. |

Are you bringing ribs or chicken for the BBQ?

I'm bringing the buns! ha It's a nearly 2 hour drive from Tecumseh to Lansing, so I wouldn't trust the meat in my car. But we'll see, what happens, I'm actually ach'ing for a steak or a juicy burger! |

I hope the tracks end up as juicy as the burgers!

haha! Well I'm also bringing an external hard drive so I can mix them at home! away from his square mix room!!!
Though is there any easy way to batch bounce the individual tracks, without having to solo each track and bounce them separately, since I don't mix on PT? |

Yes, TVPOSTSOUND did a thread on that a while back. I was on it, thinking the same thing you are.
If I can find it I'll post a link.
Something about comping trax versus bouncing... |

That would be awesome if you can find that, it would save SO much time. I had to do that to another session, just sat for two hours mixing down each track individually in a classroom....BoRiNG |

Reading that, it would seem so much easier if software used WAV to begin with.
And don't tell me ptf or whatever sounds better.
I'm looking into using Linux a lot for mixing anyway, once I get the VST support (nightmare) I'll mix some tracks from a concert 7 months ago.
On Linux, nearly every audio program can handle flac, ogg, wav, mp3... |

PT does use .WAV if you set it up to - when you set up the session.
Either way, .AIF is also readable by Windows boxes - nice bit of cross-compatability there.
FLAC, etc. are compression schemes - I don't see where they have any bearing on the discussion we're currently having...
Good luck with Linux - that's voodoo to me, and like most things voodoo-esque , it's a long road to accomplishment, if you really want to know my thoughts on the matter... |

Oh I'm not complaining about using waves, of course I use WAV! My problem is Audition doesn't enjoy opening 24bit audio, which of course on a PT HD7 system I'll be recording at. See Audition prefers the float 32bit audio, so it's gunna change the 24 bit to 32 bit float in order to play back. Though maybe I'll bite my tongue and mix in Cubase or if the mix environment is okay at this studio then I'll just spend the day mixing, though I doubt it, I don't have a whole lot of time for the complex automation i want to do (dealing with MIDI for electronic drum triggering and other junk). Anyway, basically from what I got of the last post I just consolidate all the tracks into new waveforms press save and I'm set? |

What's the problem with going from 24bit to 32bit float?
Shouldn't 24bit just be a floating 32 bit char with 8 zeros? |

There really is some funky stuff that goes on. Sony Vegas doesn't want to open 32-bit float. And Audition, not only doesn't open 24-bit files without converting to 32-bit float. It doesn't write the ".pk" file, requiring it to scan in the 32-bit float files each time.
Another reason why I still think working 16-bit is just fine. It's fine if you go in fine. But if you can't get your levels right, you need more.
I'm going to lunch
