skillz
http://blog.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=blog.ListAll&friendID=7585690

read it, he is the proud owner of a pt hd system w/ c|24 board, couple LA-2's and other junk

i have to be nice to this guy and get my hands on it so he doesnt destroy it!

ps. anyone know what the EQ or comp rig is underneath the la-2?

Pp.s. i have no knowledge of PT hardware but wouldn't having the 8 in basic HD system conflict with the 24 outs of the board?

"We have spent over 70 GRAND on The new Protools HD system for recording, everything from the paint, the furniture, mics, desk, and gear of course is top of the line, and still gearing up!

Some things you wil be using are

$3,000.00- neuman mics

All drum mics/ td 12 korg triggers

Line 6 xt pod pro rackmounts (yes like foundation)

6505/bogner heads, cabnets loaded with vintage 30's

Brand new Mac systems

Eureaka compressor/ universal audio La-610 vocal compressors

Top notch plug-ins that range from $800-$4,000.00

of course your dual 22 inch monitors and WAYYYYYY MORE

So listen guys, i need schedule from everyone becuase as you can guess i am starting rates VERY VERY VERY CHEAP

I want there to be a cheaper way, and not getting ripped off by people we wont mention for drama issues, but ive heard alot about alright sounding studios that DONT use protools HD over pricing bands that do 4-6 songs for 900 bucks and ripping them off, or being lazy, or sounding like every band that comes into the studio. Sow hat i am doing for these first few months is dropping rates

i am doing some EP's starting at 300 bucks, and 500 bucks.. i am doing full cds for 600-800 it depends on what you want.

The studio is in Howell and you will be staying the night at a very luxurious and comfy place with swimming and showers.. please bring your own money for food, unless weve talked about a bbq ahead of time or somthing.

if you are doing an EP look at staying from anywhere to 2-3 days, full cds usually 4-5

Theses rates will be only for a limited of time and i already have spots filling up VERY VERY fast.. and will be booked for the summer shortly.

IF you want to hear the quality of somthing that is a very rough mix and not even on any of the equiptment i just listed, almost a grain of salt system compared to what i just got, go listen to my bands lateset recording, without triggers and fancey equiptment im stating again..

ha he's not in the band anymore! for not being christian, apparently the story goes his dad was way behind in child support and so he just got lots of money all of a sudden, cuz this kid works at Best Buy, and he paid for all that gear in cash, no debt

so ive been told

The thingie under the LA2 is a UA 8110 8 channel mic pre (a very nice and very expensive one at that).

these are nice, sexy pics of some good gear, and a nice space. No doubt he/she came into a lot of money recently, and it's burning a hole in their pocket. They'll learn the hard way, probably.

it's not about the gear, of course, although many people at this level think it is. Their rates are fire-sale, el-cheapo, and they'll get exactly what they look for: cheap talent with no budget. (A couple of week-long bookings with stoner-bands taking advantage of their deals, while wrecking the place should probably sober them up quickly.)

Who WOULDN"T jump at the chance to record this way, even staying overnight, with all that gear just dripping with sex appeal and coolness? If I was 18 again, I'd probably want to do this, too. (Forget about the fact that TALENT and MATERIAL are vastly more important than a $3k microphone.....none of that matters to their targeted audience....scrap a few hundred together for the week, and it's paaaaaaaarty time, dude.)

But run the numbers for the rates they're charging, and you'll see that even under the best of circumstances, they're never going to make any real money, and certainly won't recoup their outlay on all that gear any time soon, if ever.

Instead of building their business, buying gear and learning as they go, they've tried to take a shortcut, dumping a load of cash, with no experience, and all but giving away studio time.

Sure, they'll be busy, and if their cash supply holds out, they MIGHT get established enough in a few years time to raise their rates, attract some higher end clients, and maybe make a go of it. By then, though, most of that gear will be yesterday's news, and the line of bands waiting to get in may be very short indeed.

I wish the guy a lot of luck, but as we all know, money to burn, new gear and giving away studio time just doesn't make for solid business decisions.

Way to go guys!

You've apparently managed to hit his profile so hard that he's set it to PRIVATE!!!

Goddammit, I hate that private option for Myspace pages!!!

BTW, Joe, it's probably a recent (and rich) F___ S___ grad's place.

Probably doesn't have to worry about overhead like the rest of us...

Halifax sez:

Quote:
He's got a 5150 half stack in the back too!

And what do we think (or know) about stacks in the studio?

Homework rocks!!!

I think the most impressive thing is that (and perhaps it's just me) someone would be willing to spend cash on some rockin' gear and yet right there next to the 58's (oh, so obviously placed to entice cats who are used to seeing them in their face on stage) lies a POS Senn. Evolution 60 - 90 - wannabe model whatever crap-ass mic.

That and the Autotune box says it all, IMHO.

Anyway, he changed his Myspace to PRIVATE - think about that..
Seriously, think about it for a second...
"I'm on Myspace looking to land paying gigs, people start a buzz about me, my next move? Make my gig-getting device private..."

DUH!

Hence my picking, BTW...

Anyway...
Anyone wanna hear about the DPA 4066 / 4088 (any DPA mic that starts with 40) HELL I've just lived through?

No problem with a Microdot to TA4F connector, oh no - it's never that simple...

Does DPA make a great mic? Yes.
Do some folks make great mics a major pain in the ass?
Hell yes!!!
