What is so great about Toast? I remember it being on our studio computer at school way back. Can your burning software effect the end result of your songs overall sound?
If it does, explain in laymen's terms.
I just use the regular mac software. I have a Fostex CR300 stand alone CD burner, which I never use because I can't seem to get it to sync to my MBox 2. |

No...it can't really effect the sound of the final product.
It can make life easy though...
With the right tools at hand, it can make creating rich CDs easy. For example, for my work, I don't fade to black after every track (for classical stuff). Most CD burning programs make you jump through hoops to get you to turn off the 2 second gap and make seemless CDs.
Also, making CDs into CD extras, etc. can be easier with dedicated software.
I've never used Toast, so I can't tell you if it's any good or better than what you have, but I can say that programs such as Minnetonka's Disc Welder (Bronze, Silver, Gold, etc.) are amazing tools that make life worth living...

It's not Toast, it's the Jam app that comes bundled with Toast.
It allows you to create masters, add crossfades, and control the gap between songs.
It doesn't affect the sound, nor shoud it.

And precisely why I love Sony Vegas or, their CD Architect/Sound Forage product. Truly great for live recordings and/or super easy segues & Cross fades. And you can take & stick your PQ codes anywhere you want them. Toast & Jam is just crunchy & sticky. That can't possibly be good for audio. Just remember what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas and you can take that to your CD Architect and smoke it while you burn it.
