Parts are as scarce as good qualified techs are getting to be.

Get something thats built to last. Get a manual and learn how to service the machine. Get proper alignment tools. Clean it often and thoroughly.

On ebay currently....Otari MX80 w/dolby hx pro....no autolocate

Otari MTR 90 mkII w/remote

Sony APR 24 w/cabling and remote.

You can also find plenty of Studer & Ampex machines. I think a friend of mine has a Otari MTR90II in very nice shape, going real cheap. I checked the machine out and tweaked it up. Make him a ridiculous offer. Ask for Bruce at 703-4 81-2200. No noise reduction is included.

I also found an Otari MTR90II in Canada for 3000.00
shipping is going to kill me no matter where i get it from...lol

Thats a real good machine. Maybe not the sound of a Scully, or an Ampex, but not the service headaches either. And it is 2" tape after all so its gonna sound 'reel' no matter which machine you get.
