any audio recorded such as a jingle or songs for tv or radio. what should be the peak level adjusted to. i've heard that anything goes for tv or audio it should be maximum 12db. what if the meteres go beyond that and still the sound is ok. i record in my home studio but i dont understand what should be the final file have its maximum volume, or compression set to etc. |

The primary rule of thumb is clean. No distortion. Normalize your levels to "-.6 DB". Not 100%. Not 0 DB. Try 99.4%. Just remember that whatever dynamics processing you use, to create greater apparent loudness, by speeding up release time, etc., can easily go over the top since television broadcast usually includes some fairly radical dynamics processing already. So you don't want their department of standards to blow you out the door because of excessive over-the-top dynamics processing & equalization, etc.. Those two things on each side of your head should help.

That "mam" was a typo, right?
(Sorry Remy - I couldn't resist)
Uh, let's move this to a more appropriate forum, say A/V Pro? |
