Anyone ever tried using distortion, overdrive, any generally extreme guitar-amp-esque setups and applying them to violin, flute, etc.?
Just did this a while ago, and it gives violin so much more tone.
PS: I used the Distroyr plugin and turned most of the knobs up a fair bit. |

I can't think of when an application of a distortion plugin would help acoustic music but if it works for you then use it. There are lots of them out on the WWW and a quick search will turn up a lot of them some even FREE!
I have spent my whole adult life and quite a bit of money trying to minimize distortion on my live acoustical recordings but that is only me and my narrow view of what constitutes a good live recording. Your mileage may vary.... |

I was looking at it from a "I'm bored, have new free plugins I want to try, and tracks of vocalists, acoustic guitar, violin etc." so it was more seeing what would happen, rather than looking to stick a distortion pedal into the Insert on the mixer.
Could be quite funny actually |

Samplitude and Sequioa V10 have something called "Distortion" in a plug-in, but I haven't gotten around to messing with it yet. I'll let you know when/if I do. |
