Isn't this what You Tube and My Space is all about? We can throw the links up on Recording.org and maybe even include some kind of Recording.org graphic? Like the one that appears in my upper left-hand corner (which I've already stolen, thank you Chris) of my browser window? It would be brought to you by "me" and " sponsored by Recording.org"?

Never mind that I spent the first 3 days at the AES and never ran into a single Recording.org person. Someone tore down my meetings announcement on the bulletin board there. We'll see what happens in 2009 at the AES, after television has gone completely digital.

Great idea Remy,

I've been trying to set-up a you tube window that fits inside for our forum topics. Its not so easy though...

We already have a "Reviews" section here. Over the past years, it has seemingly become more and more buried. There was a time when it was prominently displayed on "The Forums" header. Nowadays, you have to know that it exists, and go to "Content"...Maybe it's time you brought iit back to life with a dedicated moderator again...?
As for showcasing and videos, etc., we had the photos, and they were pulled by IT management, citing that the site did not have the server "horsepower" to support that. Has this problem been rectified?

The reviews aren't something I endorse anymore, however this topic isn't about me. IMO, the forum is the best reviews. Reviews can look pretty bias to me. I feel they are best served on Pro Audio Dealers sites.

I started this topic to see how much interest we get on any particular idea...

As for showcasing and videos, our server is doing much better than before. way faster...
adding a You Tube window here is the best thing going eh?

One thing that I would like to see is a bit more in-depth industry news... and not gear press releases.

Maybe some news from AES and even RIAA. I would especially be interested in legislation news that I don't always hear about until too late... Broadcast, Cable, Satellite, Audio, Live, etc...

excellent suggestion

any more suggestions, contacts etc that I could follow up on would be appreciated.

Here's a couple of new one's I've found...

Awesome, I have completed the code changes for adding youtube video inside the forum topics. Currently only in the fisubBrownsh theme... will add it to the fisubsiliversh once I see this is flawless.

Cheers!

To do this we do one of two ways.
Using the Quick Reply box include:

In Reply or when starting a new post... you can simply use the now included YouTub Message body option seen below the Subject box.

Here is what it will look like.

EXCELLENT!!

Now, if we could just be able to host wma, or other high-bit resolution audio files .....

I just hate having the aspect of another host for these files in the Critique section. Its hard to give advice when you're not hearing the whole thing.....

Great work in incorporating YouTube clips! Now all that is needed is a way of syncing the sound to the video and RO could be the next killer site.

Okay, we can add rss / XML feeds. So we don't have oodles of them, maybe we should only include 2 or 3 of our favorites and/or maybe a feature feed a months. See the side block for FMQB Breaking News.

Please feel welcome to share the best feeds beneficial for our community.

Well, take that back. It worked for a few days. Now it seems FMQB is either having issues with their feeds, or they are blocking us from posting their News.

Back to finding a more reliable source...

How about a forum/list of "Things to avoid" in setups, recording etc. ?

Example: I once wired a 500W amp to a --- guess what? Laptop. Laughing I'm only laughing because I got away with it, probably because the faders were as low as low could get them.
That was 6 months ago, before I knew they were called faders, that the outputs on the top of the board were unamped for a reason, and before I even worked out how to use the Aux buses.

I'd still call myself a wannabe, although I'm a lot better than I was a while ago, even last week. Since I found this site I've picked up a lot of great help and knowledge.
If RO had a formal index/homepage as opposed to just a straightforward forum, I'd print it out and tape it to the desk next to the mixer.

I think the single greatest thing that you could add to RO would be AUDIO examples of things that are discussed commonly.... maybe even an audio clip tutorial section. Make each lesson about something different, say like the proper use of compression/limiting. There was a long span between when I learned the theory of how compression/limiting works and when I could actually HEAR compression/limiting. Sometimes it's a real subtle difference and you have to hear it and have someone point it out to really catch the difference.

Especially some members here who have access to a lot of different gear.... You could make audio samples of different pre-amps, w/ different mics, different A/D converters, EQ's, etc. to give people an idea of the differences in sound..... the only way that matters.... let them hear it.

I found a place the other day that has home recording podcasts and they did a feature on different mics and preamps and played samples of each.... I probably learned more in that 15 min. about the difference in sound quality than I did the past three months reading books and forums.

It's like wine tasting.... you can know all of the theory you want about different grape varieties and different wine regions, but until you actually taste the wine and personally experience the subtle differences in taste, it's all just theory.
