Alright, so my control room is medium sized (18ft x 13 2/3 ft x 9 ft) and has a deep (13") ceiling joist running from left to right, about 8.58ft from the front wall. To make matters worse, it's just behind where i sit (38% off the front wall).
How bad is that for bass?
I have rockwool slabs in most corners of the room. Should i try to put some up there? or use lenrds? The lenrds seem like they would fit well, but i guess i could cut some rockwool in half too. Would membrane traps be better because of the size of the room? Should i move my position?

Any object significantly smaller than the wavelength and sound will wrap around it as if it wasn't even there. A 13" object wouldn't have much of an effect on bass (<100hz) I'd bet.
Awesome, you just saved me a lot of time and energy by ruling that out.
In a similar vane, the middle of the front wall comes out about 17" for a chimney and fireplace. Would this not have an effect on the bass either? I have rock wool in the corners of the room and the corners where it comes out.
The thing is, when you stand in front of the fireplace 38% from the front wall, the sub bass dissapears. A little to the left or right and the low end comes back, but in the middle it's really uneven and my mixes come out really sub heavy.
Is there something i'm missing?
