I had a monitor in the middle before. I didn't like it. Mainly I noticed it affecting the stereo image. I also found it distracting. Most of my work is done sitting at the console listening and reacting to what I hear. Having the flat screen off to the side works best for me. It's easy to reach over and hit record. If I'm just editing I can slide it over if I want.
Whatever works for you. |

Rune i hear what you are saying.
But i most serdently have my reasons for using the Baransu's.
Lehnert had/has the Kegon's that has a slightly different design than mine and a different room to go with it in SDC-Dandisc.
If you doubt the performence of my system then I would be more than glad to offer you a small listening session at my place where you could bring all your favorite CD's.
Best Regards, |

sorry if i sounded arrogant in any way!
if you read my post again you will find that i do NOT question the quality of the sound of your system... all i doubt is the use of tubes in mastering amps!
but anyway we should meet for coffee sometime

....almost there... oh yes!! I found the magic button, now it all sounds much better!
I'm finally finished and ready to take up the competition in DK!
Don, I haven't seen your new place let's see some photos of it. Is it a good place you have got there?
And Rune, thanks for the talk-listening-testing-coffee-and-great-ice-cream session the other day. I'm looking forward to meet with you again and do some work for you... hopefully soon |

Henrik & everyone:
I will post pictures & etc. soon. I am waiting for my new monitors to come in. They are Wilson Audio Sophia's which are being custom built as we speak with a new tweeter (like the ones from the Watt/Puppy spkrs) to get an extended H.F. response.
David Wilson is doing the mods at the factory. They are supposed to be here sometime next week. I'll keep you posted. The equipment list can be found at the Masterdisk website:
www.Masterdisk.com
The pictures of the room on the website currently are very old. The room itself is great! Cozy & good sounding. The lathe is the best lacquer lathe I've ever worked on. This is all very exciting: to have a new room. You must be in heaven yourself! Best of luck Henrik!!

Thanks Don
Did you find the Sophia speakers better than the Dunlavy's?
And how does the Sophia's compare with the Grand Slamm?
Best Regards |

Henrik,
Yes! The Sophia's were MUCH better than the Dunlavys. I auditioned Watt/Puppies, Vienna Acoustics, Martin Logan, Sonus Faber, Dynaudio, JBL, B&W, Linn, ATC, KEF, Avalon, Legacy Audio, and other brands in my size & price range and found these to do the job best. The Grand Slamm are way too large for the room (& too expensive too).

Don,
Yes, the Grand Slamm are very big(and very expensive).
I've heard my High End dealer talk about them as one of the greatest speakers in the world.
I have respect for his words because he has spent many years seeeking one gold: the system that plays most differences. We also agree in almost every aspect we talk about.
I have to ask him about the Sophia's, he doesn't like the Watt/puppy's though.
I find the different speaker brands homepages quite revealing when it comes to one thing: do they care for audio/music reproduction or other things instead. A quick look at the other homepages of the brands you mentioned will reveal this.
I find Wilson audio's homepage much better than the others and it reveals their pasion for music
Maybe I could find a demo room that has the Sophia's here in DK.
Best Regards, |

Henrik
How big is your room Height - Width and Length?
I like your setup but I am sorry to say that it seems rather small for doing mastering. Do you have a place for your clients to sit and listen or is it only for you?
My room is 14 feet wide 24 feet deep and 12 foot high in the middle of the room with it sloping down to 8 feet at the front and back. Even with that amount of space it still seems small, especially when I have a couple of clients in the room with me. We are using ALON !V speakers and they need a lot of room to sound good. We originally were using the Carver Amazing Loudspeakers but they were just too big for the room and needed a room twice the size we now have.
Just wondering how everything sounds in your new room.
Thanks |
