Could recording.org offer more programs or services?

I would love to see a review forum or section. If anyone knows where a good unbiased pro audio gear review website is let me know. Even if it was a retailer, if they did it like newegg does with computer supplies it would be great I.E. ratings and comments about individual products.

A great section for reviews would have a post count limiting on posting a new review and a post count limiting commenting on it. That way you could weed out some of the spam. Say you would need 200 or 500 or what

If you're mixing from stage, then I would say you'll almost have to use the house mix and everyone will have to try and blend, though this will be totally different than blending with out any reinforcement.

Looking for good Portable Digital Recorder

Hi,
I'm considering purchasing a portable recorder (digital stereo) and wondering if anyone has used one of the following two, what you think of it, and where I might find the best deal:
*Zoom H2 (or H4) (advertised $ H2 > $200.00)
*OLYMPUS WS-331M (advertised $ > $180.00)

My primary use is for on the spot recording for my guitar & songwriting, but I may want to use it to record someone in a small concert setting, like a cafe or something. Add'l uses would be for interviewing.

From you have described, you have a triple leaf in the window. This would have terrible sound isolation at it's MA... frequency. More information on the window blocking and wall construction is needed to confirm. The first thing would be to tear down the current window blocking and build it as two leafs. Or remove two of the leaves and build the second one with 4 layers of gypsum.

I'm not sure if keeping the gain knob at 0 on the Mbox bypassed the preamp, but I sure could tell a WORLD of difference in the sound! doing an A/B comparison revealed the Robbie to have a HUGE, RICH, FULL, WARM, VE

Is it a MUST to use a compressor for vocal recording?

Absolutely, but the compressor can do damage to a dynamic performance by a good singer. A good singer can play the mic like an instrument, because that's what it is. When a singer really knows how to hit the spatial sweet spot, and can properly control the dynamic input to the mic, I think it's better to leave it alone. Sure this doesn't apply much of the time, because those singers are increasingly a rarity. Most of the singers I record these days have no live experience whatever, in which case

tips for recording vocals?

Only thing I didn't understand was shufty.

I'm getting some mixed definitions over here @ exit 4!

'Shufty' is Northern English vernacular for 'look', as in look at it, or give it an inspection.

Thick vocals are more apt to happen with SM 58's instead of somebody's condenser microphone. It's a great sounding vocal microphone and great to record.

This message brought to buy.... SM 58's. The ability to cause severe head trauma and still being able to record a guitar.
